When Phillip Garrido had a background check carried out on him three women were set free

Liza Campbell, special events manager at the University of California, Berkley, was approached by Garrido with his two girls in tow. Garrido wanted to find out about using the University campus rooms for putting on his function. She had another commitment, so she asked him to return the following day.

Garrido was animated, eager, and full of excitement about the function he wanted to hold. Garrido’s two daughters were of school age but not at school. The girls told Liza they were home schooled. But they were very emotionally disconnected. Liza’s instincts were on red alert. She had a gut feeling something was wrong.

Luckily Liza responded to her instincts that something wasn't right and ran a background check on Phillip Garrido. The results came back and Liza ascertained that Garrido was a registered sex offender on parole for rape and kidnapping. At Liza’s request Police Officer ,Allison Jacobs, sat in on the next meeting between Liza and Phillip Garrido and his two daughters.

At the next meeting Jacobs began to engage the girls in conversation, looking for any signs of abuse. It wasn't Allisons Police instincts as much as her motherly instincts that kicked in. Jacobs knew something was wrong. She was worried for these little girls. Reporting the meeting to Garrido's parole officer and the presence of the two girls Allison couldn't have been prepared for the response. Back came the shocking news. “Garrido doesn't have any daughters!”

Allison’s heart sank down to her stomach!

Lets all stop for a moment and consider. How would you feel if you began with a suspicion that you couldn't quite answer?? But rather than take no action you conducted a background check that not only cleared up a long standing FBI case but put someone behind bars that needed to be there and gave others their long deserved freedom.
