Background Check: released Jaycee from her ordeal

Using a Background Check Liza Campbell gave Jaycee her freedom.

When Liza Campbell met Phillip Garrido with his two daughters in tow, she was so concerned by him that she ran a background check on Garrido. This lead to the whole world changing in several peoples lives. Liza discovered that Phillip Garrido was on parole after a rape conviction and was a registered sex offender. It was her ‘suspicion’ of him together with the ‘background check’ she carried out on him, which lead to Jaycee being freed after eighteen years of incarceration. Plus the freedom of her two daughters by Garrido.

Liza Campbell showed us all how invaluable the background checks service can be. We can all carry out background checks. The Freedom of Information Act and other changes in the Law, together with the advent of computers, the Internet, and online Background Check services, has resulted in all of us being able to carry out background checks on anyone. Thank goodness we can when it results in people like Jaycee and her teenage daughters gaining their freedom from captivity, and monsters like Garrido being arrested.

I’m sickened by the thought! What if! What if Liza didn't run a background check even though she was suspicious of Garrido! Suppose it wasn't possible for Liza Campbell to run a background check? The result could have been catastrophic. How much longer would Jaycee have to cope with captivity? When would this horrifying saga have ended?

So what happened? Phillip Garrido with his two girls in tow went to Liza Campbell, Special Events Organiser at the University of California, Berkley, to discuss hiring a hall at the campus. She had another commitment, so she asked him to return the following day.

She thought the encounter odd enough to carry out a background check on Garrido, revealing his past history. Campbell then asked Allison Jacobs, Police Officer, to sit in on the meeting the next day.

After this second meeting Jacobs notified Garrido’s parole officer and the events as you know them were exposed .

Thankfully we can now all carry out Background Checks when we have suspicions! Thankfully Liza Campbell carried out a background check when she became suspicious.
