A Background Check on Phillip Garrido finally lead to Jaycee Lee Dugard being released from 18 years of imprisonment and her two daughters gaining their freedom
Liza Campbell, special events manager at the University of California, Berkley, was accosted by Garrido with his two girls in tow. A talk took place concerning Garrido hiring a hall at the University for one of his functions. She had another commitment, so she asked him to return the following day.
Liza was impressed by the passion that Garrido spoke with when he talked about the event he wanted to hold on the University campus. It was one o’clock but the girls were not at school. Garrido’s two daughters told Liza they were home schooled. The two daughters were pasty, not at school and acted as if brainwashed. Something just wasn’t right. Liza knew it. Her motherly intuition had kicked in.
Liza just didn’t feel right about Garrido. A mother’s desire to protect told her that something just wasn’t right about his daughters and so she carried out a background check on Garrido. This check declared that Garrido was on parole after a rape conviction and was a registered sex offender. At Liza’s request Police Officer ,Allison Jacobs, sat in on the following meeting between Liza and Phillip Garrido and his two daughters.
Allison was on the lookout for anything dubious, partic
ularly child abuse. It wasn’t Allisons Police instincts as much as her motherly instincts that made her take notice. Jacobs knew something was wrong. She was worried for these little girls. She phoned Garrido’s parole officer and informed him of the meeting and of the two girls that Garrido had with him. Back came the shocking news. “Garrido doesn’t have any daughters!”
Allison’s heart sank down to her stomach!
Just let us all take a deep breath and ponder this . What if you are not sure why but you just had a bad feeling about someone? But your suspicions lead you to do a background check that not only ended an 18 year old FBI case but gave a mother and her two daughters a taste of freedom for the very first time.
We should all be so proud and grateful to Liza and Allison for acting on those protective motherly feelings.
