A Background Check on Phillip Garrido ultimately lead to Jaycee Lee Dugard being freed from eighteen years of incarceration and her two daughters gaining their freedom

Liza Campbell, special events manager at the University of California, Berkley, was accosted by Garrido with his two girls in tow.He spoke to Liza about holding an event at the campus. She had another commitment, so she asked him to return the following day.

When talking over his function Garrido was exuberant and passionate . The girls were of school age but not at school. They both told Liza they were home schooled. Both girls should signs of emotional immaturity, disconnected from the world, and a stunted development. Something just wasn’t right. Liza knew it. Her motherly instincts had kicked in.

Liza just didn’t like Garrido. A mother’s desire to protect told her that something just wasn’t right about those girls and so she ran a background check on Garrido. The background check declared that Garrido was a violent sex offender on parole. Liza then contacted Allison Jacobs, Police Officer, explained the strangeness of the meeting with Garrido, and asked her to sit in on the meeting that she had set up for the next day.

Talking to the two sisters Jacobs was waiting for any give away signs of child abuse. It wasn’t Jacobs Police intuition as much as her motherly instincts that rang alarm bells. Jacobs knew something was wrong. Allison was worried for these little girls. The response astonished her. She phoned Garrido’s parole officer after the meeting and told him of Garrido’s two daughters . Back came the astonishing news. “Garrido doesn’t have any daughters!”

Allison’s heart sank down to her stomach!

Just stop for a moment and think. How would you feel if your instincts told you that something wasn’t right about a person?
