Once Phillip Garrido had a background check carried out on him three women were released from their hell
Liza Campbell, special events manager at the University of California, Berkley, was accosted by Garrido with his two girls in tow. Garrido needed to find out about using the University campus facilities for putting on his function. She had another commitment, so she asked him to return the following day.
When talking over his event Garrido was exuberant and passionate . The girls were of school age but not at school. Each girl said they were home schooled. Both girls should signs of emotional immaturity, disconnected from the world, and a stunted development. Something just wasn’t right. Liza knew it. Her motherly instincts had kicked in.
Luckily Liza responded to her feelings that something wasn’t right and did a background check on Phillip Garrido. The background check showed that Garrido was a violent sex offender on parole. Liza then contacted Allison Jacobs, Police Officer, explained the strangeness of the meeting with Garrido, and requested Allison to sit in on the meeting that she had arranged for the next day.
At the next meeting Jacobs began to involve the girls in conversation, looking for any signs of abuse. The hairs on her neck stood up as her motherly instincts came to the fore. Jacobs knew something was wrong. Allison was worried for these little girls. What happened next astonished Jacobs. She phoned Garrido’s parole officer after the meeting and told him of Garrido’s two daughters . Back came the shocking news. “Garrido doesn’t have any daughters!”
Allison’s heart sank down to her stomach!
Just let us all take a deep breath and ponder this . How would you feel if you started with a suspicion that you couldn’t quite put your finger on?? But your suspicions lead you to do a background check that not only solved an 18 year old FBI case but gave a mother and her two daughters a taste of freedom for the very first time.
We should all be so proud and grateful to Liza and Allison for acting on those protective motherly feelings.
