Using a Background Check Liza Campbell gave Jaycee her freedom.
When Liza Campbell saw Phillip Garrido with his two daughters in tow, she was sufficiently suspicious that she ran a background on him. This showed her that he was on parole because of a rape conviction and was a registered sex offender. It was this background check that revealed to Liza who Garrido really was and gave Jaycee her life back.
Background Checks. Liza Campbell showed us all how invaluable this service can be. We can all carry out Background checks. The Freedom of Information Act and other changes in the Law, together with the advent of computers, the internet, and online Background Check services, has resulted in all of us being able to carry out background checks on anyone. Thank goodness we can when it results in people like Jaycee regaining her freedom after all these years, and monsters like Garrido being jailed.
I’m shocked at the thought. What if! What if Liza Campbell didn’t or couldn’t carry out a Background Check on Garrido? The result could have been catastrophic. How much longer would Jaycee have to bear captivity? How long before these innocent girls gain their freedom?
In more detail. The story as it unfolded started with Phillip Garrido approaching Liza Campbell, special events manager at the University of California, Berkley, about holding an event at the campus. She had another commitment, so she asked him to return the following day.
Garrido’s past convictions came to light after Liza conducted a background check on Garrido following this initial difficult meeting . Campbell then asked Allison Jacobs, Police Officer, to sit in on the meeting the next day.
This lead to Jacobs telling Garrido’s parole officer of the two daughters and then the whole sorry saga unfolded.
Today we can all have our suspicions allayed or confirmed by carrying out our own Background Checks
