A Background Check on Phillip Garrido finally lead to Jaycee Lee Dugard being freed from eighteen years of incarceration and her two daughters gaining their freedom
Liza Campbell, special events manager at the University of California, Berkley, was spoken to by Garrido with his two girls in tow. A talk took place regarding Garrido using a hall at the University for one of his events. She had another commitment, so she asked him to return the following day.
When talking over his function Garrido was enthusiastic and passionate . The girls should have been at school. His daughters claimed that both parents taught them at home. Both girls should signs of emotional immaturity, disconnected from the world, and a stunted development. Liza just felt there was something about his children that wasn't right.
Liza just didn't feel right about Garrido. Instincts told her that something just wasn't right about those girls and so she did a background check on him. The background check divulged that Garrido was a violent sex offender on parole. Liza then contacted Allison Jacobs, Police Officer, explained the strangeness of the meeting with Garrido, and requested Allison to sit in on the meeting that she had organised for tomorrow.
At this second meeting Jacobs began to involve the girls in a chat, looking for any signs of abuse. The hairs on her neck stood up as her motherly protectiveness came to the front. Jacobs knew something was wrong. She was worried for these little girls. She called Garrido’s parole officer and informed him of the meeting and of the two daughters that Garrido had with him. Back came the stunning news. “Garrido doesn't have any daughters!”
Allison’s heart sank down to her stomach!
Just let us all take a deep breath and ponder this . How would you feel if your intuition told you that something wasn't right about a person? But your suspicions lead you to do a background check that not only ended an 18 year old FBI case but gave a mother and her two daughters a taste of freedom for the very first time.
We should all be so proud and grateful to Liza and Allison for acting on those protective motherly feelings.
