A Background Check on Phillip Garrido finally lead to Jaycee Lee Dugard being released from 18 years of imprisonment and her two daughters gaining their freedom
Liza Campbell, special events manager at the University of California, Berkley, was accosted by Garrido with his two girls in tow. A conversation occurred regarding Garrido hiring a hall at the University for one of his functions. She had another commitment, so she asked him to return the following day.
Garrido was buoyant, impassioned, and full of excitement about the event he wanted to stage. The girls were of school age but not at school. They both told Liza they were home schooled. The children were looking controlled, unobtrusive, and unemotional. Something just wasn’t right. Liza knew it. Her motherly protectiveness had kicked in.
Liza didn’t just do nothing. Thinking, "Oh that is not my job!" She did a background check in response to those suspect feelings. The background check revealed that Garrido was a violent rapist on parole. Liza then contacted Allison Jacobs, Police Officer, explained the strangeness of the meeting with Garrido, and requested her to sit in on the meeting that she had arranged for the next day.
Chatting to the girls Allison was waiting for any give away signals of child abuse. The hairs on her neck stood up as her motherly protectiveness came to the fore. Jacobs knew something was wrong. Allison was worried for these little girls. What happened next astounded her. She phoned Garrido’s parole officer after the meeting and told him of Garrido’s two daughters . No one could be prepared for the astounding reply. “Garrido doesn’t have any daughters!”
Allison’s heart sank down to her stomach!
Just stop for a moment and think. What if you are not sure why but you just had a bad feeling about someone?
