Background Check:brought Garrido’s reign of terror to an end

A Background Check on Phillip Garrido ultimately lead to Jaycee Lee Dugard being set free from eighteen years of incarceration and her two daughters gaining their freedom

Liza Campbell, special events manager at the University of California, Berkley, was accosted by Garrido with his two girls in tow. Garrido needed to find out about using the University campus hall for putting on his function. She had another commitment, so she asked him to return the following day.

When explaining his event Garrido was exuberant and passionate . It was one o’clock but Garrido’s two children were not at school. Garrido’s two daughters told Liza they were home schooled. But they were very emotionally disconnected. Liza’s instincts were on red alert. She had a gut feeling something was wrong.

Liza didn’t just not bother. Thinking, "Oh that is not my job!" She did a background check in response to those instincts . The background check disclosed that Garrido was a violent sex offender on parole. Liza then contacted Allison Jacobs, Police Officer, explained the strangeness of the meeting with Garrido, and requested Allison to sit in on the meeting that she had arranged for the next day.

At the following meeting Jacobs started to involve the girls in a chat, checking for any signs of abuse. The hairs on her neck stood up as her motherly protectiveness came to the front. Jacobs knew something was wrong. Jacobs was worried for these little girls. The response appalled Allison. She phoned Garrido’s parole officer after the meeting and told him of Garrido’s two daughters . We all reeled from theshocking answer. “Garrido doesn’t have any daughters!”

Allison’s heart sank down to her stomach!
