A Background Check on Phillip Garrido lead to Jaycee Lee Dugard being set free from 18 years of captivity.
When Liza Campbell laid eyes on Phillip Garrido with his two daughters in tow, she was suspicious enough that she ran a background on him. Back came the result in fact he was a registered sex offender and was on parole for a violent rape conviction. It was this background check that showed Liza who Garrido really was and gave Jaycee her eventual freedom.

In more detail. Phillip Garrido with his two girls in tow approached Liza Campbell, Special Events Organiser at the University of California, Berkley, to find out about hiring a hall at the campus. She had another commitment, so she asked him to return the following day.
Garrido’s past convictions came to light after Liza carried out a background check on Garrido following this first awkward meeting . Campbell then asked Allison Jacobs, Police Officer, to sit in on the meeting the next day.
The next step was that Jacobs told Garrido’s parole officer of the daughters. Then the World took notice.
Thankfully we can now all carry out Background Checks when we have suspicions!
