Background Check:revealed Garrido’horrific past

A Background Check on Phillip Garrido finally lead to Jaycee Lee Dugard being set free from 18 years of incarceration and her two daughters gaining their freedom

Liza Campbell, special events manager at the University of California, Berkley, was spoken to by Garrido with his two girls in tow. Garrido had to find out about using the University campus hall for putting on his event. She had another commitment, so she asked him to return the following day.

Liza was impressed by the passion that Garrido spoke with when he talked about the function he wanted to hold on the University campus. It was one o’clock but Garrido's two children were not at school. They both told Liza they were home schooled. They were looking controlled, inconspicuous, and unemotional. Liza’s instincts were on high alert. She had an uneasy feeling something was wrong.

Luckily Liza responded to her instincts that something wasn't right and did a background check on Phillip Garrido. This check revealed that Garrido was on parole following a rape conviction and was a registered sex offender. Liza then contacted Allison Jacobs, Police Officer, explained the strangeness of the meeting with Garrido, and asked her to sit in on the meeting that she had set up for the next day.

Jacobs was on the lookout for anything unusual, particularly child abuse. Slowly her motherly protectiveness took over. Jacobs knew something was wrong. Allison was worried for these little girls. Relaying the meeting to Garrido's parole officer and the presence of the two daughters Jacobs couldn't have been prepared for the response. Back came the astonishing news. “Garrido doesn't have any daughters!”

Allison’s heart sank down to her stomach!

Pause for a moment and think. What if you don’t know why but you just had a bad feeling about someone? But rather than being passive you conducted a background check that not only cleared up a long standing FBI case but put someone in jail that needed to be there and gave others their long deserved freedom.
