Background Check:revealed Garrido’despicable lies

Doing a background check on Phillip Garrido ended 18 years of worry for Jaycee’s family

Liza Campbell, special events manager at the University of California, Berkley, was approached by Garrido with his two girls in tow.He questioned Liza about holding an event at the campus. She had another commitment, so she asked him to return the following day.

Liza was struck by the passion that Garrido spoke with when he discussed the function he wanted to stage on the University campus. It was one o’clock but Garrido’s two children were not at school. They claimed that both parents educated them at home. Both girls should signs of emotional immaturity, disconnected from the world, and a stunted development. Something just wasn’t right. Liza knew it. Her motherly instincts had kicked in.

Liza didn’t just sit back. Thinking, "Oh that is not my job!" She ran a background check in response to those suspect feelings. This check divulged that Garrido was on parole after a rape conviction and was a registered sex offender. Liza then contacted Allison Jacobs, Police Officer, explained the strangeness of the meeting with Garrido, and requested Allison to sit in on the meeting that she had organised for tomorrow.

At this second meeting Jacobs began to involve the girls in conversation, looking for any signs of abuse. It wasn’t her Police intuition as much as her motherly instincts that rang alarm bells. Jacobs knew something was wrong. Allison was worried for these little girls. The response stunned Jacobs. She phoned Garrido’s parole officer after the meeting and told him of Garrido’s two daughters . We all reeled from theshocking answer. “Garrido doesn’t have any daughters!”
Allison’s heart sank down to her stomach!

Lets all stop for a moment and consider. How would you feel if you started with a suspicion that you couldn’t quite put your finger on?? But rather than take no action you did a background check that not only solved a long standing FBI case but put someone in prison that needed to be there and gave others their long deserved freedom.

We should all be so proud and grateful to Liza and Allison for acting on those protective motherly feelings.
