Background Check:brought Garrido’s reign of terror to an end

A Background Check on Phillip Garrido finally lead to Jaycee Lee Dugard being set free from 18 years of imprisonment and her two daughters gaining their freedom

Liza Campbell, special events manager at the University of California, Berkley, was accosted by Garrido with his two girls in tow.He spoke to Liza about holding an event at the University. She had another commitment, so she asked him to return the following day.

Garrido was animated, passionate, and full of excitement about the function he wanted to stage. The girls should have been at school. Garrido’s two children said they were home schooled. The children were quiet, unobtrusive, and unemotional. Liza’s instincts were on red alert. She had an uneasy feeling something was wrong.

Liza just didn’t like Garrido. Her feelings told her that something just wasn’t right about his daughters and so she did a background check on Garrido. This check divulged that Garrido was on parole after a rape conviction and was a registered sex offender. Liza then contacted Allison Jacobs, Police Officer, explained the strangeness of the meeting with Garrido, and asked her to sit in on the meeting that she had organised for the next day.

At this second meeting Jacobs began to engage the girls in a chat, observing any signs of abuse. The hairs on her neck stood up as her motherly protectiveness came to the front. Jacobs knew something was wrong. Allison was worried for these little girls. The reply stunned Jacobs. She contacted Garrido’s parole officer after the meeting and told him of Garrido’s two daughters . The whole world reeled at the shocking reply. “Garrido doesn’t have any daughters!”

Allison’s heart sank down to her stomach!
