Background Check: freed Jaycee from 18 years of captivity

A Background Check on Phillip Garrido lead to Jaycee Lee Dugard being set free from 18 years of captivity.

Liza Campbell felt huge amounts of anxiety about Philip Garrido so she ran a background check on him to find out what his history was. Back came the result in fact he was a registered sex offender and was on parole for a violent rape conviction. It was this ‘suspicion’ together with a ‘background check’ that culminated in Jaycee being freed after 18 years of incarceration.

Background checks . Now we can all run a background check on anyone we are suspicious of just like Liza Campbell did. The Freedom of Information Act and other changes in the Law, together with the advent of computers, the internet, and online Background Check services, has resulted in all of us being able to carry out background checks on anyone. Thank goodness we can when it results in people like Jaycee regaining her freedom after all these years, and monsters like Garrido being apprehended.

I’m Horrified. What if! Lets say Liza Campbell didn’t have access to a background check service? Just think for a moment the possible outcomes. How much longer would Jaycee have to cope with captivity? How long before these poor girls gain their freedom?

In more detail. Phillip Garrido with his two girls in tow approached Liza Campbell, Special Events Organiser at the University of California, Berkley, to find out about hiring a hall at the campus. She had another commitment, so she asked him to return the following day.

She considered the encounter strange enough to carry out a background check on Garrido, revealing his past history. Campbell then asked Allison Jacobs, Police Officer, to sit in on the meeting the next day.

This lead to Jacobs telling Garrido’s parole officer of the two daughters and then the whole sorry saga unfolded.

Thankfully we can now all carry out Background Checks when we have suspicions!
