Once Phillip Garrido had a background check carried out on him three women were released from their hell
Liza Campbell, special events manager at the University of California, Berkley, was approached by Garrido with his two girls in tow. Garrido had to find out about using the University campus hall for putting on his event. She had another commitment, so she asked him to return the following day.
Liza was impressed by the passion that Garrido spoke with when he discussed the event he wanted to hold on the University campus. The girls were of school age but not at school.
Garrido’s two daughters told Liza they were home schooled. Both girls should signs of emotional immaturity, disconnected from the world, and a stunted development. Liza just knew there was something about his children that wasn't right.
By chance Liza responded to her instincts that something wasn’t right and carried out a background check on Garrido. The background check declared that Garrido was a violent sex offender on parole. At Liza’s request Police Officer ,Allison Jacobs, sat in on the next meeting between Liza and Phillip Garrido.
Talking to the two daughters Jacobs was watching for any give away signals of child abuse. Slowly her motherly protectiveness took over. Jacobs knew something was wrong. Allison was worried for these little girls. Reporting the meeting to Garrido’s parole officer and the presence of the two daughters Jacobs couldn’t have been prepared for what happened next. The whole world reeled at the appalling reply. “Garrido doesn’t have any daughters!”
Allison’s heart sank down to her stomach!
Just stop for a moment and think. What if you are not sure why but you just had a bad feeling about someone? But instead of doing nothing you conducted a background check that not only cleared up a long standing FBI case but put someone in prison that needed to be there and gave others their long deserved freedom.
We should all be so proud and grateful to Liza and Allison for acting on those protective motherly feelings
