Jaycee Lee Dugard: Prison Inmate Marriages

Do you realize that Nancy Garrido was introduced to and married Phillip Garrido whilst he was in Leavenworth Penitentiary in Kansas serving a 50-year federal sentence for kidnap and rape?. She was 26 and he was 30. His psychiatric evaluation diagnosed him as a "sexual deviant and chronic drug abuser”.

In spite of this we let Nancy not only to meet him in prison but gave them ample time together to form a relationship, get engaged and eventually marry whilst he was still incarcerated! What were we thinking?

The issue of Prison Marriages needs to be reviewed!

Did we allow a sexual deviant, Phillip Garrido, to entice a weak, defenseless Nancy? Or was Nancy a willing female pedophile?

Maybe one of society’s last taboos is the concept of ‘female pedophiles acting alone’. Nancy we know was not acting alone but as soon as a man is present society assume the female acted under duress, fear or is coerced by the man. This way we don’t have to acknowledge that the woman is the transgressor or a willing participant. Society is not yet equipped to even contemplate that women can willingly abuse children.

Female sexual abuse is much more threatening to the fabric of our society- it undermines our core beliefs and feelings about how women should relate to children.

Does Nancy Garrido fall into the title of a female pedophile? Was Nancy forced or acted willingly?
Even after the trial we cannot be certain that the truth will out but that still doesn’t disguise the fact. We paid for the wedding!

Garrido was convicted of kidnap and rape and began serving a 50-year federal sentence on June 30, 1977, at Leavenworth Penitentiary in Kansas. In a court-ordered psychiatric evaluation, Garrido was diagnosed as a "sexual deviant and chronic drug abuser."

Whilst paying a visit to her incarcerated uncle at the same prison Nancy met Phillip Garrido. On October 5, 1981, Phillip Garrido and Nancy Bocanegra were married at Leavenworth. So the marriage occurred in 1981 even though Phillip Garrido was not discharged until 1988. Seven years later. Were they given conjugal rights for those seven years?

Let me pose again my question. Did we place a weak and vulnerable woman under the power and control of a diagnosed incarcerated “sexual deviant” or are women pedophiles much more responsible for their abuse of children than society wishes to admit?

Prison Marriages. Have we let our penitentiaries be meeting places for sexual deviants? Not only that we then marry them!
