Jaycee Lee Dugard is shown now for the first time in People Magazine. Jaycee said, “I’m so happy to be back with my family”, she told the magazine. "Nothing is more important than the unconditional love and support I have from them.” How incredible Jaycee looks. Giving hope to so many families with missing children and inspiring the rest of us. She looks incredibly happy now she is back with her mother and family. A face that disguises her age and what she has had to endure.
Jaycee Lee Dugard was kidnapped in 1991 when she was just 11 years old. An ordinary, everyday short walk from her house in South Lake Tahoe, California to the school bus stop, within sight of the house, ended with Jaycee being abducted. Carl Probyn, Jaycee’s stepfather, was in the garage entrance of their family house, watched her walk towards the school bus stop a short distance away. The family’s world fell apart when a woman then grabbed Jaycee and pulled her into a gray sedan before speeding off. Carl dashed after the car on his bicycle but couldn’t keep up with them as the two people in the car drove off with Dugard trapped inside.
Angel, 15, and Starlit, 11, are Jaycee's daughters, apparently fathered by Phillip Garrido, 58; a registered sex offender who police say raped her repeatedly over the years. Phillip Garrido’s home was on the outskirts Antioch, CA. It was in the backyard and backgarden that Jaycee and her children lived. Angel and Starlit had never been to school or seen a Doctor.
The house is actually owned by his ailing mother who lives there with him and his wife, Nancy, 54.
A perimeter solid high wooden fence, overhanging trees and dense shrubbery hid the rear yard and garden from neighbors. Beyond this fence lay hidden a mess of tents and sheds. It was in this cluster of filthy tents and windowless shacks that Jaycee and her two daughters lived.
Altogether Phillip Garrido and his wife Nancy Garrido face a combined total of 29 felony charges, including forcible abduction, rape and false imprisonment.
Jaycee and her two daughters are now living in seclusion with her mom, Terry Probyn, 50, and family. A family spokeswoman said Jaycee was riding horses, cooking meals and thinking of collaborating on a book.
We must not let these images give us a reason to dismiss what Jaycee has had to suffer all these years or forget even for a moment that experiences like these take years of therapy to even begin to return to some sort of normality.
They do however give us all hope. The sort of hope that comes from seeing another human being putting on a heartwarming smile even after suffering 18 years of hell.
It is truly inspiring.
Lets all wish her well on her road to recovery.
