JAYCEE LEE DUGARD: A JOY TO SEE

Jaycee Lee Dugard is pictured for the first time by People Magazine. Jaycee said, “I’m so happy to be back with my family”, she told the magazine. "Nothing is more important than the unconditional love and support I have from them.” These pictures are an inspiration to us all and give hope to the families of missing children. Jaycee looked radiantly happy, healthy, with a great broad smile and wavy long brown hair over her shoulders.

Jaycee Lee Dugard was kidnapped in 1991 when she was just 11 years old. Jaycee’s horror commenced when she walked from her home in South Lake Tahoe, California, the short distance to the school bus stop. All within sight of her home. Carl Probyn, Jaycee’s stepfather, stood in the garage entrance of their home, watched her walk towards the school bus stop a short distance away. The family’s world fell apart when a woman then grabbed Jaycee and dragged her into a gray sedan before driving off. Carl sprung on his bike, pedaled furiously after the car but lost it.

Angel, 15, and Starlit, 11, are Jaycee's daughters, apparently fathered by Phillip Garrido, 58; a registered sex offender who police say raped her repeatedly over the years. The yard at the rear of Garrido’s home outside Antioch, CA, is were Jaycee and her children lived, never frequenting school in all those years or ever seeing a Doctor.

It may come as a shock to many to learn that Phillip and Nancy Garrido actually resided with his ailing elderly mother in a house belonging to her. Why hasn’t more been said about her and her involvement in Jaycee’s incarceration? It’s as if ailing and elderly automatically absolves her of any possible wrong doing. Was she ailing and elderly 18 years ago when Jaycee was first imprisoned in her backyard? Has she been ailing and elderly every day of those 18 years? Was she ailing and elderly 15 years ago when Phillip Garrido spent 5 months in prison and Nancy fed Jaycee alone? Was she ailing and elderly while Jaycee gave birth without any medical aid to two babies.

This backyard area, overhanging by mimosa trees and hidden by a tall wooden planked boundary fence, featured a hellish warren of four tents and five shacks. It was in this cluster of filthy tents and squalid shacks that Jaycee and her two daughters lived.

Today Phillip and Nancy Garrido face a combined total of 29 felony charges, including forcible abduction, rape and false imprisonment in connection with the kidnapping of Jaycee Lee Dugard in 1991. Garrido remains in custody at the El Dorado County Jail in Placerville, California, as he and his wife Nancy Garrido await trial.

Jaycee and her two daughters are now living in seclusion with her mom, Terry Probyn, 50, and family. A family spokeswoman said Jaycee was riding horses, cooking meals and thinking of collaborating on a book.

We can’t allow these wonderful images to in any way reduce the horror that Jaycee and her family have suffered over the last 18 years or in any way belittle the very challenging road to recovery that Jaycee will have to go through.

They do however give us all hope. The sort of hope that comes from seeing another human being putting on a heartwarming smile even after suffering 18 years of hell.
It is truly inspiring.

Lets all wish her well on her road to recovery.
