Background Check: First Phillip And Nancy Garrido Now Johnny Wright

A background check at last nailed Phillip and Nancy Garrido. With some female suspicion and a mother’s protective instincts.

Phillip Garrido with his two daughters in tow discussed with Liza Campbell, Events Organiser, University of California, Berkeley about hiring the facilities at the University to hold a meeting there that he wanted to stage. Liza became suspicious and carried out a Background Check on him. She found that Phillip Garrido was on parole after a serious sex conviction and was on the registered sex offenders list.

Liza was unable to conclude their discussion that day because of a prior appointment and so asked Garrido to return the following day. Meanwhile with the results back from the background check Liza Campbell asked Ally Jacobs, Police Officer, to sit in with her at the following meeting the next day .

At this meeting Ally spoke separately to Garrido's two daughters. Her motherly instincts told her something was wrong. She informed Phillip Garrido's parole officer about the meeting with Garrido and his two daughters .

Back came the shocking news. She felt sick to her stomach. Garrido didn't have any daughters!

Now Phillip and Nancy Garrido face a combined total of 29 felony charges, including forcible abduction, rape and false imprisonment in connection with the kidnapping of Jaycee Lee Dugard in 1991.

Garrido stays in custody at the El Dorado County Jail in Placerville, California, as he and his wife Nancy Garrido await trial .

This is what a woman’s suspicion, a Background Check and a mother’s instincts can do. Hooray for background checks and suspicion. How great was that result!

Our second story that promotes doing a background check is the arrest this week of Johnny Wright after twenty-five years of avoiding the Law.

You couldn't invent this. Johnny Wright walks into the Police Station in Lawrenceville, Georgia, and requested a background check be carried out on him. This formed part of a job application for a driver’s job in Atlanta. He popped in the next day to pay the 15 dollars and collect the paperwork but found himself in custody. An arrest warrant from 1985 had surfaced in connection with the second-degree murder of Rebecca A Doisy from way back in 1976!

If only someone in the last 24 years had been suspicious enough of Wright to have carried out a Background Check on him, just like Liza Campbell did with Garrido. Perhaps Background Checks should form part of every job application?
