Background Check: Results in The Arrest Of Johnny Wright

Just a while ago we heard how a combination of a woman’s suspicions, a background check and a mother’s instincts resulted in the apprehension of Phillip Garrido from Antioch, California .

First Liza Campbell, Events Organiser,University of California, Berkeley, after seeing Phillip Garrido with his two daughters, became suspicious and carried out a Background Check on him which showed he was on parole after a vicious sexual assault conviction and that he was a registered sex offender .

After asking Garrido to return the next day for a further meeting Liza contacted Police Officer, Ally Jacobs, and asked Ally to sit in with her and Garrido at this next meeting.

At this meeting Ally spoke separately to the two girls. Her motherly instincts told her something was wrong. Ally informed Phillip Garrido’s parole officer about the meeting with Garrido and his two daughters .

Back came the shocking news. She felt sick to her stomach. Garrido didn’t have any daughters!

The horror that Jaycee Lee Dugard’s and her family have suffered since 1991 has finally come to an end. In all a total of 29 felony charges where filed against the Garrido’s .

This is what a woman’s suspicion, a Background Check and a mother’s instincts can do. Hooray for background checks and suspicion. How great was that result!

This next story doesn’t include a woman’s suspicions or a mother’s instincts. It rests simply on a Background Check bringing someone to justice .

Johnny Wright was apprehended recently after attempting to apply for a driving job in an Atlanta suburb. The position required a criminal background check for the job application. It was Wright who went to the Police Station in Lawrenceville, Georgia, to have the Background Check carried out! When Wright came back the next day to get the paperwork he was arrested on a warrant issued in Missouri in 1985 for second-degree murder committed way back in 1976!

If only someone in the last 24 years had been suspicious enough of Wright to have carried out a Background Check on him, just like Liza Campbell did with Garrido. Perhaps Background Checks should form part of every job application?
