People Magazine took the 1st public and exclusive pictures of Jaycee Lee Dugard, 29 years. Jaycee said, “I’m so happy to be back with my family”, she told the magazine. "Nothing is more important than the unconditional love and support I have from them.” These stunning photos are an inspiration to us all and convey hope to the families of missing children. I am both moved and inspired to see a photograph of Jaycee that is a testimony to how well she is coping now she is back with her mother and family.
Jaycee Lee Dugard was kidnapped in 1991 when she was just 11 years old. Jaycee was abducted as she took a walk to the school bus stop within sight of her home in South Lake Tahoe, CA. Jaycee’s stepfather, Carl Probyn, a few hundred yards away in the entrance to his house garage, watched helpless as she was dragged into a gray sedan by a woman. Carl’s fervent efforts to pursue the gray sedan on his bicycle were futile.
Angel, 15, and Starlit, 11, are Jaycee's daughters, apparently fathered by Phillip Garrido, 58; a registered sex offender who police say raped her repeatedly over the years. The yard at the rear of Garrido’s home close to Antioch, CA, is were Jaycee and her children lived, never frequenting school in all those years or ever seeing a Doctor.
This house in Antioch, CA, where Jaycee and her two daughters were kept prisoner in the backyard is actually in the name of Phillip Garrido’s mother. She lived there with Phillip and Nancy Garrido, Jaycee and Jaycee’s two daughters. It feels as if the authorities are keeping very quiet about her involvement. Possibly dismissing it on the grounds of ill health and being elderly. She hasn’t always been ill or elderly. What was her involvement in this horrendous crime over 18 years?
This backyard area, overhanging by mimosa trees and hidden by a high fence, featured a hellish warren of four tents and five shacks. It was in this isolated area of filthy canvas tents, tarpaulin, wooden shacks and refuse that Jaycee and her two daughters lived.
Phillip and Nancy Garrido now await trial facing a combined total of 29 felony charges in regard to Jaycee Lee Dugard’s kidnapping in 1991, and includes rape and false imprisonment.
Jaycee and her two daughters are now living in seclusion with her mom, Terry Probyn, 50, and family. A family spokeswoman said Jaycee was riding horses, cooking meals and thinking of collaborating on a book.
We should not let these photos give us a reason to dismiss what Jaycee has had to suffer all these years or forget even for a moment that experiences like these take years of therapy to even begin to return to some sort of normality.
They do however give us all hope. The sort of hope that comes from seeing another human being putting on a heartwarming smile even after suffering 18 years of hell.
It is truly inspiring.
Lets all wish her well on her road to recovery.
