Jaycee Lee Dugard: Nancy and Phillip Garrido Married In Prison

Did you know that the Prison authorities allowed Nancy and Phillip Garrido to meet and marry in Leavenworth Penitentiary in Kansas whilst he was carrying out a 50-year federal sentence for kidnap and violent sexual assault?. She was 26 and he was 30. His psychiatric evaluation diagnosed him as a "sexual deviant and chronic drug abuser”.

That didn’t prevent the Prison authorities from letting Nancy and Phillip Garrido get together and eventually marry whilst he was still imprisoned in Leavenworth, Kansas. We are our own worst enemy for letting this go on!

The issue of Prison Marriages needs to be reconsidered!

Did we allow a sexual deviant, Phillip Garrido, to entice a feeble, unprotected Nancy? Or was Nancy a willing female pedophile?

Perhaps one of society’s ultimate taboos is the concept of ‘female pedophiles acting alone’. Nancy definitely was not acting alone but as soon as a man is present people assume the female acted under duress, fear or is coerced by the man.Thereby taking away any responsibility the woman has for the abuse of the child. We revolt against the thought that women can be willingly engage in the sexual abuse of children.

Female sexual abuse is much more threatening to the fabric of our society- it undermines our core beliefs and feelings about how women should relate to children.

We have to consider the question, “Is Nancy a female pedophile?” Was Nancy intimidated or acted willingly?

We may eventually find out the truth when they come to trial but that still doesn’t address the single potent fact. We paid for the wedding!

Garrido was convicted of kidnap and rape and began serving a 50-year federal sentence on June 30, 1977, at Leavenworth Penitentiary in Kansas. In a court-ordered psychiatric evaluation, Garrido was diagnosed as a "sexual deviant and chronic drug abuser."

While he was locked up in prison Phillip Garrido met Nancy. She was there visiting another inmate, her uncle. On October 5, 1981, Phillip Garrido and Nancy Bocanegra were married at Leavenworth. So the marriage was in 1981 even though Phillip Garrido was not released until 1988. Seven years later. Did they get conjugal rights for those seven years?

So the question remains. Did we place a weak and vulnerable woman under the power and control of a diagnosed incarcerated “sexual deviant” or are women pedophiles much more responsible for their abuse of children than society wishes to admit?

Prison Marriages. Have we allowed our prisons be a contact club for sexual deviants? Not only that we then marry them!
